Computational Biologist (ML Expert) - Remote

Job description

At Omniscope, we're looking for brilliant & curious minds to join our mission to decode the immune system and develop the next generation of immune-based diagnostics and therapeutics. If you're passionate about machine learning (ML), computational biology, and immunology, this is your chance to make an impact by helping us deliver healthcare to everyone, everywhere.

Omniscope is a vertically integrated Techbio company focusing on reading, analyzing, and writing the immune system. Our proprietary technology generates deep profiles of T cell and B cell receptor (TCR/BCR) repertoires from millions of single cells for a high-resolution profile of immune dynamics in highly relevant clinical areas, such as immunotherapy for cancer, and vaccines for infectious diseases. We leverage our data to gain insights into immune cell specificity and functionality, paving the way to design novel immune-based diagnostics and therapies.

We are looking for computational scientists to join our effort to read, analyze, and write the immune system. In the Computational Biology team at Omniscope, we focus on quantitative modeling approaches for the integrative analysis and interpretation of immune repertoires and multimodal biomedical data. Successful candidates must have a strong quantitative background in machine learning, statistics, and computational biology, as well as a good understanding (or willingness to rapidly learn) about molecular immunology.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical expertise in ML, with ideal candidates possessing deep expertise in at least one of language models, diffusion models, or graph ML models applied to biomedical problems.
  • Develop and implement novel computational methods for the analysis of biological sequences and structures.
  • Customize and adapt existing tools for the integrative analysis and visualization of large datasets in systems immunology.
  • Develop and deploy ML-based diagnostic or therapeutic design pipelines.
  • Computational methods benchmarking and performance optimization.
  • Contribute to or lead the analysis and interpretation of large-scale collaborative projects interfacing with academic, clinical, and industry partners.

Qualifications

Must have:

  • PhD (or MSc plus equivalent experience) in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related quantitative fields.
  • Strong quantitative modeling background including both ML and Statistics, demonstrated ability to apply this skill set for creative problem-solving.
  • Strong scientific background and publication record with proven high levels of performance.
  • Deep, hands-on experience in data handling and visualization.
  • Fluent in Python and familiarity with basic software development good practices.
  • Extensive experience with at least one of TensorFlow or PyTorch

Nice to have:

  • 3+ years of postgraduate experience in academia or biotech/pharma industry in the field of ML/AI applied to biological data.
  • Previous immunology experience, especially in T cell and B cell receptor analysis.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise in at least one of: language models, diffusion models, or graph ML models applied to biomedical problems.
  • Experience in cloud or cluster GPU computing.
  • Additional programming languages: C/C++ and CUDA, Rust, JavaScript

Competences

  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to own planning, execution, and delivery of company-relevant results.
  • Experience coordinating collaborative projects.

Location and travel

  • Remote (preference for Malta-based).
  • The core team is based in European time zones.
  • Travel may be required occasionally.
